This is the very scary Windsor Eye. Really...it is scary! (Don't be fooled by the smiles on our faces in the pictures below. They are masking utter terror.) Not as big as the London Eye, but your pods swing. And it was our experience that Windsor is a very windy place!
It was a nice way to spend the last evening in England. We followed this up with a little shopping. OK, a LOT of shopping. Our B&B host asked why we shopped so much, were there things you could get in England that you could get anywhere else? We didn't understand the question...
Now, back to that piece of cake: navigating in Windsor. One did not take into account that we would be returning in the dark, carrying a large amount of shopping bags, from a maze of retail heaven. (Did you know that Windsor is famous not only for its castle, but for its shopping as well?) We boldly decided to take a short cut, after all we did look at the map once. A few minute walk turned into a long evening stroll. An hour later we finally made it back to our room. Now, how to pack all of our stuff? Good thing we packed those extra bags.
We left for the airport at a reasonable hour the next morning. Only a fifteen minute cab ride to the airport. It seemed like mere seconds compared to the ride we had a few days earlier from London to Windsor in rush hour traffic.
We arrived at the airport too early to check our bags, which was good since both of our suitcases were over the weight limit. We took a few of our many mugs out of our suitcase and put them in our carry on bags. Don't worry, there was more shopping in the terminal so we were able to buy another bag (or two). Walking through security, we heard angels singing..."Harrods!" We HAD to walk through a Harrods store in order to get to our gate. It was the final hardship of our trip.
Can't believe our big trip is finally over. We are already planning a trip to Ireland, and since we "missed" Pemberley this time, we'll need to make a return trip to England, too. Maybe next time we'll go in the Summer! Cheers! Hip, hip, hurray!
