No pictures for this day. It was spent on the train. A very long day on the train. We left Aber at what we thought was a reasonable time. We should have known it would be a long day when the heater in our train car was broken. We switched trains in Birmingham and noticed locals taking pictures of the snow outside. Apparently it was the first time it had snowed in London in October in 70 years. We thought we had left the snow in the Highlands of Scotland, but apparently not.
That was just the beginning of our adventure. Once back in London we needed to get to a different train station to catch a train to Windsor. We had checked our large luggage, so the plan was to go to Windsor and pick up our bags the next day. It was rush hour and the tube station was so packed we didn't think we could even get our small bags on the tube to get to the other station. After much contemplation, and irritation on Karen's part, we decided to ask at the information desk about hiring a car. "Hiring a car" was the wrong wording, as the guy was giving us directions to the Enterprise desk. I quickly told him that we didn't want to drive ourselves! Was he nuts?! He smiled and said he thought we were being very adventurous.
It could have been that we were freezing and tired and wanted to take all of our bags, but the price quoted to drive us to Windsor didn't seem that unreasonable. A few minutes later we were in what we thought was the safety of a hired mini-van. Moments later, we were hit by a London Dump Truck. After a brief car chase, our driver was able to pull over and get the trucks license number. Then it was back to business as usual and the driver chatted on the phone in Arabic for the rest of the drive. (We think his girlfriend was annoyed that he had agreed to drive all the way to Windsor.)
The stop and go traffic for mile after mile was not Deb's idea of a good time, and she was very ready to be out of the vehicle when we finally arrived in Windsor a couple of hours later. Green is not her color! Thankfully we had a lovely room waiting for us, and the B&B host didn't mind staying up until we got there. Thank you 76 Duke Street!
